mmm... hospitals...

Yellow- scott here… I’ve been a slackin on my blogging so here goes me trying to make up for that. I had an awesome fall break. Mandy came to Memphis and we cooked for each other (I made my famous spaghetti with the Italian sausage meat sauce and she made some awesome chicken cordon bleu) and saw a movie or two and then we went to the Zoo on Friday… the zoo was just great and when I get back to the room (I’m in the med-school building right now) I will definitely put some of those pictures up. I love those animals. Why couldn’t I have been born a rhino, huh?? They are just SO BIG… you think you know, but you have no idea. Right now I’m all dressed up to go to our big sight visit at the VA (that’s a hospital). I’ve got on khakis, a dress shirt, a tie, and my oh-so-professional white coat which I love. They joked around when they gave us these that when you put them on your IQ actually jumps about 15 points… so that’s nice… I hope they are right about that. Josh asked me if I would be a professional pharmacist after 4 years here and the answer to that is- yes I will (of course I already told him that but I figure if he wasn’t sure there might have been a few other people that wanted to know). Yeah- those guys you see at Kroger checking your pills and counseling you if you need it (well actually it is LEGALLY whether you need it or not!)- that’s gonna be me. If you go to the hospital and you have to stay for a few days the doctor checking your blood levels and adjusting your medication levels will be me… the guy who makes I.V. bags is me (we already learned how to do that)- the pharmacist who gives you your flu shot at the local pharmacy will be me (actually they let the second year students do that… scary, huh?)… I’m not going to pharmacy school to be a glorified technician here people… this is the real deal… it’s the same amount of education as your dentist or eye doctor gets… we don’t have to do those 2 years of “residency” after our first 4 here in Memphis like physicians do, but then again they make a good amount more than pharmacists, dentists, and optometrists so I don’t feel too sorry for them… so at the 10 year reunion I will be Dr. Scott Burka, but you can just call me “Scott Burka…. Pharm D.”… just kidding… but maybe I never really told anyone WHAT I was going to be after I got done here so now its on the record for everyone to see! Now I gotta go to the hospital… did I mention I don’t really like hospitals? Later
