wow

so i was thinking after i wrote the last post- "i wonder if people really believe what i'm saying...i'm sure it sounds far-fetched..." which brings me to tonight at dinner- me and Chun and Lan went out to eat to celebrate valentines day... and chun is telling me about his rotation... i'll just tell it the best i can- true story-

so chun's first day he was with the pharmacist and they were walking around talking about intoductory things and a Code went out over the intercom system ("While there is no formal definition for a "Code," doctors often use the term as slang to refer to a patient in cardiopulmonary arrest , requiring a team of providers (sometimes called a "code team") to rush to the specific location and begin immediate resuscitative efforts.")- the pharmacist told him 'ok, lets go- we need to run'.
so they ran to the stairs and went down a few floors and went to the patient's room and chun just waited outside and the pharmacist went in with a couple doctors and a couple nurses- one of the nurses came out after 30 seconds and said 'hey the doctor wants to talk to you', so he went in and he said 'you need to be in here to see this- i need you helping me out in a couple years!'... so chun went in the room and they were shooting the patient up with various things, and doing CPR, and they ended up shocking them 3 times- eventually they got a pulse and everything was fine... the same thing happened on the second day with a different person. Over the next week he made it to 3 more codes- and on the 5th, (a couple days ago)- something different happened- Chun had rushed down to the code- and was standing there- and he said the same doctor had been at the last 4 (the same one that called him in the first time)- and he had started to notice chun more... he looked over at the nurse who had started compressions for CPR (who chun described as a large/strong man) and told him to get out of the way, he said to chun: "ok- its your turn- keep the compressions going"... so chun freaked out for a split second, and then went right into it and said he did CPR on this guy for 3 minutes (he's told me sometimes they keep going up to 20 or more minutes) until the doc let somebody else take over... and Chun went on to tell me all about how it felt, and how scared he was, and how much of a rush it was... etc... and i was just blown away... he had some other crazy stories too... just some stuff that i couldnt even believe at first... yikes... ok gotta go again... man i'm tired...
