there's gold in them there hills...

Just watched ‘Almost Famous’ (yes I’ve seen it before- but its been several years)- still a really great movie in my opinion- Cameron Crowe (Say Anything, Vanilla Sky, Jerry Maguire) hit another homerun with this one- its just smart writing- something that I was really missing when I saw “Lady in the Water” the other day- and I might also add “The Italian Job”… I know a lot of people really enjoyed the latter, but yeah…(actually I know this girl that loves it, and I’m gonna try really hard to dodge the “did you like it” question…)… I thought it was really stupid - as I described to Aryan on the phone- a “poor man’s ocean’s 11”… (I first said 12, but he corrected me)- so coming off those couple of stinkers, Almost Famous really stood out a lot- it actually won an Oscar in 2000 for best Screenplay, and was nominated for Best supporting actress twice (kate Hudson, and some other girl) and best editing- And honestly I’d have to agree with that- I’m not like a huge Hudson fan or anything, but there’s a scene towards the end when she’s on a plane and she remembers something that the main character guy told her while she was passed out because he didn’t think she’d hear him- and its like- the whole part of that scene is just zooming in on her as she realizes it- no words or anything- you can just tell from her eyes and expression what is going on in her (character’s) head- and I think that’s probably the definition of good acting.

I’ve been listening to the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack (did I mention I liked that movie?)… the way I got it- it didn’t break the CD up into separate songs- so its just one 42 minute song- but that’s fine with me- the whole thing is really good- the whole movie I’m listing to the music which is written as a soundtrack- but its written in the style and orchestration of the day- mostly strings and a piano (which is really pretty)- so its kind of a double whammi- but anyways- the music is really great…it actually sounds like classical music of that time period- I left the movie thinking “I wonder who’s music they used” for many of those parts- but come to find out that its all just from the composer of the score for the movie- he did it all himself- (the Guy’s name is Dario Marianelli- who got an Oscar nomination for this score as well- neat) you’d swear that you were hearing something from the early 1800s (the book was first published in 1813). My dad was actually asking me who the composer was- and I was honestly surprised to find out that it was just composed so recently- it does the job of running the gambit of emotions in the movie (or book maybe?) - if anyone wants I’ll burn you a copy- Josh, oh master of the sheet music- you think you could hook me up?

January has been a pretty nice month for me so far- I’ve got to do everything in my power to get on a better sleep schedule before next month when I’ll have a schedule that will most likely be 8-4, if not earlier, and its about 30 minutes away, and I’ve got to dress up- Shirt-Tie-Dress Shoes-white coat- every day--- all normal rotation stuff, but I just know that first week is going to be a rude awakening because I’m still just living the life of a college student, this selective month has been a piece of cake so far and I already did my one big presentation, so that’s out of the way- hmmm…

I don't know how many of you know this- but I’ve been looking, pretty seriously, at moving to Alaska after I get out of school- no its not set in stone- but its something I want to do… “why would you want to do that, Scott?”- great question-

1) it would only be for 2 years- the length of a pharmacy contract- (I’ve even checked into that, its 2 years…)

2) its beautiful up there from what I hear- and heck- if you know me you know I enjoy the winter much more than the summer- granted the winters up there will be ohhh a solid 30-40 degrees colder than those here on average… eh well… I’m an eagle scout- I like the outdoors, I like mountains, and I like it cold-

3) Pharmacists in Alaska make ABOUT- 25-30% more than here- (supply and demand- it’s a beautiful thing)- I’ll be single (or with a girl who really likes Ice perhaps?), no kids- and I’ll be able to pay off my (probably much more substantial than you think) student loans from pharmacy school in about 2 years if I’m good- I might come back here with a little left over- but in theory, it should be at least 80% gone-

4) at what other time in my life besides retirement would this even be remotely possible?

And that’s it- those are my reasons- take ‘em or leave ‘em… I love Tennessee, I love my family, and I love the south, UT football, DCI, friends, you name it- I couldn’t be happier in this quadrant of the country and I wouldn't trade it for anything - so I’ll be back without a doubt… its just something I think I’d like to look into… I’ve been in Memphis for close to 3 years, so I mean… 2 isn’t all that long…

Just thought I’d throw that out there… hope everyone’s having a great week-

"Grrrrr.... i need some Aspirin... my head's killing me!"

scott, you're kind of new here so i'll break this down for you... there's this system of tubes that goes everywhere and it's called an internet. through that internet we can send things, electronically, mind you, but still. prepare to have your mind blown.
