blog time

Its blog time! I just finished up with my april rotation/selectives… i honestly had a great month to tell you the truth… I gave my big presentation yesterday- it was about 70% of my grade… I felt good about it when I was up there- I was actually kind of nervous the week leading up to it… but I tried to really do my homework and just be as prepared as possible- and you know- when I got up there, everything just felt right… I really wanted to try to impress Dr. Self because I’ll be doing a general medicine rotation (the hardest kind) with him in august and I just want to at least make the best first impression I can… I talked to him after class and he said “thanks for doing a great job on that presentation” and thanked him and just walked out of there with the biggest smile on my face- it felt great to feel like I had poured myself into something that someone else could appreciate… but I really enjoyed the class as a whole- everyone was basically assigned an after-market drug interaction (as in, the FDA didn’t catch it during the extensive clinical trials they do)-to present... i ended up having about 33 sources for my bibliography when it was all said and done... the big rule was that we would get 5 points off for every citation from the general medical literature that we didn't include... so the research itself was a good chunck of the work- i found 24 on my first sweep, and then i checked each and every one of those papers' citations and crossed out the ones i already had and looked up the ones i didnt- these last 2 months as a whole have been VERY research oriented, but i tell ya- i can walk in that library and find/copy those medical journals/books like lightning! I've got that place figured out hard core... its kinda like a regual library, except with just scientific journals instead of books- as in- you wouldnt find one piece of fiction in the whole place- i dig it...

I don't really have a lot going on until June 1st, so I’d be up for suggestions… I’m planning a Knoxville trip towards the middle/end of May to visit relatives and pharmacy/other friends who are still residing in east Tennessee, so that’ll be fun…i'm also planning on a DCI trip or two in july- immediate family: if i were on my own, i'd personally buy a ticket and go to the MTSU show, you are certainly welcome to come too but just be aware that they raised prices this year and lets just say, for all 4 of us to sit in the same places we did last year and the year before, it would be 200 bucks instead of 160... just think about if you want to go or not- i'm not twisting anyone's arm here, but i'm still probably going to go- the MTSU show is considered to be one of the best there is all season and its only a 40 minute drive from MJ

Whoa- ok- 24 hours have past and I kind of didn’t finish this and just left it on a MS word document-

So today I picked up some sticks and mowed the grass and that was fun- I went and played some Frisbee and it was GREAT! I think my leg has made a lot of progress- honestly… I was changing directions, sprinting, covering fast people, really kind of moving around out there and it felt really good… my throwing was really on and the med guys were all really positive about my performance … it feels good to get high-fives, and “great throw”s… it feels like its been an eternity since I’ve been able to get out there and just let it all out on the field-

And so today I called Rite Aid and said “hey- I’m off for a few weeks- you guys want me to come in and work any?” they said “yeah sure- you wanna come work tonight?” and I said “sure!”

And when I got there they said “hey this girl said she is going to be out of town- you want all her hours for the next 2 weeks?” and I said… “sure!”… it was really kind of awesome how that worked out- I’d like a little extra money (I am going on some trips this summer.. .maybe I can just keep what I earn the next few weeks in a jar and use it for gas money or something…)- it was nice to be back at work, I kind of missed it… they said I looked older and I said “well.. it has been almost a year since I was here so…”… but it really has been something I’ve observed about pharmacy school- perhaps its just a factor of us all being in a certain age range, or maybe its all the school stuff… but everyone just seems to kind of age… faster… you can look around the house downstairs and see composite pictures from year to year and see how people’s faces change… I remember being a p1 and saying “well I see what’s happening here… but that won’t happen to me cause I’m gonna run and stay in good shape and stuff…” buuuut it didn’t really work out like that, unfortunately… but its cool- people do trust you more if you look older so that helps… but anyways- Rite Aid was great- I was worried that I would have forgotten everything about their computers but its just incredible how fast that stuff comes back- I just warmed back up on some stuff for about 5 minutes and then it was just like no time had passed from last summer to now- I was right back in the flow!... and I was wondering what another year of school would do to my counseling skills and I’d say I was able to step it up somewhat- I really like the rite aid corporation as a whole- they seem to really take care of their people- and I think it’s a little warmer than Walgreen's as a whole- I dunno… ok I’m tired- aaaaand sleep time….
