a G of a different color...
Yellow… Scott here…I’m downloading some music for my Scott’s stuff 16… should be good. I'll need that because I'll be doing a decent amount of driving this coming break here… stuff is good…
I need to say something about HG… a lot of people don’t really understand him… “why does he always make fun of people?”… “is he seriously going to wear that?” yeah I’ve thought that stuff too… but there was something that happened a few weeks ago that really surprised me (in a good way)… and I think I'll write about it. Me and G were studying for a biochemistry test we had the next day and we were talking about stuff… having a good time and whatnot… and somehow the topic of Drum Corps came up… I’m sure it was me that said something… and I was kind of expecting the usual “dci sucks” speech I get from people sometimes, just because they like to see me get angry… but G said something else. He said “he what was that song in the middle of your show? It kind of started out slow and…” and I was like “oh the tango part where the guard danced and stuff?” and he was like “yeah I really liked that part a lot… what was the name of the song?” and I told him, and he affirmed again that that was one of his favorite parts of our show… at the time I was pretty impressed and I thought that was nice of him to say so… but then I thought about it later (after I didn’t have to think about the test anymore)…now I don’t mean this to diminish any of the other nice things you guys have said to me about my interest in drum corps… but what he said was probably the coolest thing I’ve heard from any of my friends on this subject… from the LAST person I would ever expect to hear something like that from. His question and comment meant that he not only remembered our show… he remembered specific parts of it… and he wasn’t afraid to tell me what part he did enjoy… and it wasn’t just a “yeah I liked your show” kind of thing… anyone could say that without haven't paid attention… he actually paid attention to our show and remembered a specific song that he enjoyed months after the actual event. This was coming from a guy who I had to argue with countless times with about drum corps… I tried to get him the past 3 years, and he not only didn’t seem interested, he thought it wouldn't be a good time or worth his time ore money…(very much like some conversations I had with C. Bryan about it)… and he came and he had a good time, I could tell. Also, a week ago Dobbs was giving his 2 cents as to why he thought DCI wasn’t anything too special and how he didn’t see how anyone could get immersed in it… and I don’t expect him to know without having seen it in person, but G interjected to him during our argument and said “it actually is pretty cool, Dobbs.”…and that said so much to me… and I guess you would have had to lived with me Josh, Scholes, and G for our first 3 college years to understand where I am coming from… but it was cool. So thanks G, if you are reading… which I don’t think you are… but you might get bored sometime.
Moving on… today was kind of a “blustery” day… if you will… wind blowing, rain, lots of dark clouds… just not one of those “it’s a really nice day today” kind of days…. Having said that… it’s a good day for me because this is the first school-day since Thursday the 2nd of October that haven't had to work. I almost don’t know what to do! I suppose that's how I have time to write this blog… oh yeah… and I just won a pair of Birkenstocks for like 46 bucks on ebay- brand new…and I NEEDED some because I have had the SAME pair for the last 2 years and they have already been through a renovation and they are worn down from that… I guess because I wear them every day for everything that I can possibly wear sandals to. So that's cool! I love ebay… I mean… the exact same pair at retail would cost me 90 dollars… and if you don’t believe me… we can go to a store that sells them and I'll show you… its so nice to be making a lot of money too.. I’m making way more than I need…. I mean.. minus FOOD, my gameboy sp, my Columbia jacket, and every other expense… I’ve saved 750 dollars just since the beginning of the school year…. I’ve also got a check coming in next week that will be for well over 400 dollars…could be around 475 with my raise… so that's good... anyways… I’m going to go make some spaghetti! Have a great day… only one more day of school for me this week!
picture of the day:
This was my dad talking to me on our last day of practice in orlando... he was trying to tell us that we were playing sharp because he had heard some of the brass staff saying that... it was funny... but i dont think he knew he wasnt supposted to come and talk to us while we were practicing... but then again it was the last day of practice and i dont think anyone cared. Mike was on my right... he was the soprano section leader... and one of the horn seargents... he really knew what he was doing and i have alot of respect for his skill and stuff... he would always know exactly where to be on the field and he usually knew exactly where YOU were supposed to be too... and if he was having a bad day he would let you know it in not-so-nice terms... but he was still a nice guy... good sense of humor.
