it is better to run a slow heart rate for 4 miles rather than fast heart rate for 3.

running fast is like burning jet fuel....running slow is like burning diesel.

run on.....

yeah i know dad... this is more of a 'training program' he wants me to do to build certain muscles in a certain way that should be most beneficial to my leg getting better... in addition to that-- while running slower burns fat during the run by using your more intermediate storage form of energy instead of your "sugar" (the jet fuel)- running in fast bursts has its benefits in that it builds 'fast twitch' muscle fibers with your 'slow twitch' fibers... so you are building 2 types of muscle at the same time, and the 'fast' fibers are muuch larger and burn more calories throughout the day (like just walking around) than just the slow ones alone- so in the end, it has been said by many that building the fast type basically gives you a larger muscle mass and will in the long run be just as effective if not moreso than running at a controlled heart rate--- but i know there are benefits to both--- he gave me some good info- and he does train members of the U of M football team including that guy who just broke the single season rushing record (dont remember his name...)... but i know you are also right-- i just feel like i need to give this way a try for awhile and see where it takes me... so far i've been making great progress and getting much stonger, so i'm going to stick with it for awhile... we can run slower and longer when i come home this weekend- how about that?
