ouchy

well... had my proceedure done today... i dont really know what to call it... when they take a biopsy off of your bone with a really big needle... it took about 45 minutes...
1well first we get there and wait in the main hospital waiting area,
2 then i go to the lab right there and they take 2 tubes of blood from my arm (woot)
3 then i wait some more and they call me back
4 i get weighed and i wait in another room by myself
5 another lady comes and talks to me for a second and sticks me in my arm putting in an IV line
6 i wait some more, and then after i'm joined my my mom in the room, another lady comes and says its time to go, so i sit up and she says "oh no, we're wheeling you there in this bed" so that was slightly scary since a) i've never had to go to the hospital and b) she seemed to think this was going to be rough enough that i needed to be wheeled around in a hospital bed...but i was comfortable so... let me take that back a second... before she wheels me away she is asking me some questions and she says "so you didnt eat after midnight... did you?" and i was like "umm... well i had a muffin for breakfast... nobody told me that i couldnt eat, i mean you're working on my leg, right?" and she says "ohhhi see... with a concerned look on her face as she writes some stuff on her paper"... i didnt think much about it...
7 so if i get down to the bottom and i have to wait and stuff and the nurse talks to me, and we're talking and she starts to tell me about ibuprofen and tylenol, but instead of saing "i'm in pharmacy school" i just took the short lesson and said "ok and smiled" then she said " you didnt eat anything after midnight last night... DID YOU?" and i was like... "umm yeah a muffin, why?" and she said "ohh that really sucks" (her exact words- which was funny because she was all being ms. sweet nurse before this point) "that means we cant really give you anything to take the edge off the pain... we'll have to rely all on the local stuff (lidocaine) because if you get sick and throw up with the other pain meds you could choke and die... sorry"
8 oh man! "i guess it wont hurt much, i mean its just 2 needles and stuff"... but i turned out to be wrong on that one... they had to take 5 CT scans on me (the most radioactive test performed by modern medicine... each test carries with it the equivialent of a year of smoking a pack a day's carcinogenic exposure... BUT that data was based on full-body CT scans.. and mine was only perhaps 20%... so maybe all in all i just got about 1 year of smoking under my belt there... dang) they would go in with a needle, numb the area, and then take a scan to see where the needle was, then go in alittle further with the needle and numb some more... after that they were pretty much at the head of my femur with the needle- i couldnt feel much up to that point... but aparantly bone doesnt numb, and bone hurts when you touch it with sharp objects... so they scaped around and moved it around to get in position- and THEN he pulls this bigger needle out and says "ok this is going to smart for a minute"... "oh man... ok i can do this i'm tough"

9 "AAAAHHHHHHH" 2 nurses rush to my side- one holds my head down and the other squeezes my hand- it hurt really really bad for about 20 seconds while he scraped around and took some samples from the cyst.... "is that where the pain has been comming from?"
"y yy yaaah"... i noticed that while the nurse was holding my hand my hands were shaking- nothing i've really noticed before...

but it went well i think, the doc said it was a good sample and he says he wouldnt be suprised if this clears up and i feel better- and he explained how this gooey- gel- like cyst ON my bone would be causing so much pain- they key will be how i feel the next 3 days- ok i'm comming to MJ now- see you there- Scott
