oh man i've got a crazy story about tonight...
there's this little red cat down at the Doc's field... he/she (i'll just say he), lives down in the bushes on the other side of the track... i actually met him last semester when i was walking around the track and he was just a little baby red cat, but still managed to evade me in the bushes... now he's afew months old and getting into his teenage years (they grow fast)... and when i go walk around the track, sometimes, once in a blue moon, he will jump out where i can see him... well last week i saw him and kinda went over there and tried to convince him why he should come be my friend and let me pet him and what not, but he wasnt having that... "i'd be so good for you, cat! come on... you know i'd be good for you... i've got foood!" but that didnt work... so finally... i just decided to sit on the little rock wall there by the bushes and just pretend like i didnt want anything to do with him... and lo and behold, about a minute later he bounced out and came over to play... i still pretdended like i didnt care and he came and cautiously brushed against my leg and then went for an all out 5 minute rub fest against my legs... he even jumped up on the ledge and rubbed against my back... but every little move i made he just backed away... i finally decided to grab him when he wasnt looking, but he freaked out and ran away to the bushes... so i've been walking every other day or so for about a week trying to find him again because, i mean, he's a cute cat, i think he's a pretty cool character, and we'd be good for eachother... so tonight, i'm finishing up my walk, and i stop and stand there for a minute sure that i'll never see him again, and there he is! he comes on over after a few minutes of coaxing and rubs and purrs and stuff, and jumps up on the wall again next to me, and he lets me acutally pet him (really slow movements) and once i got 1 pet in, he decided that he liked that and let me go to town... once i scratched his ears it was all over... so finally i kinda grabbed him nice and easy and he let me hold him for about 20 seconds, he looked like he had never been picked up before, he didnt know what to expect, and i was going to take him back to the car and adopt him, but once i started walking with him, he decided we needed to spend some more time apart and prompty freaked out and escaped my grasp... he went over about 10 feet away and kinda stared at me and started cleaning himeself, and i was just going to wait it out and try again (you know me... i dont take 'no' for an answer), and then this guy walks up to the fence, i've never seen a homeless person come over there before, but he definitly was creepy, and i'd say more of the scary intense type and not the overly friendly type of homeless person that Todd does such an excellent job impersonating (i'm really serious, todd has that thing down... i'd say good enough for the movies)... i was standing RIGHT THERE staring at him, and he was staring at me... and i was just thinking "oh well... he cant get in..." and he looked around and walked up to the fence and the locked gate and put his hands on it and started to push the gate and it opened like a 10-12 inches or so and he was trying to sqeeze through so it was at this point i decided to take my belongings and leave my little red friend... i ran over to the guard station and told they badged lady what was up, and about a minute after she got on the phone blue lights were blazing and 2 cops surrounded the place and took the guy away... it was awesome! i was really proud of the memphis police... really quick... i was impressed by everything... so i guess if you had to choose a time for something bad to happen to you in this city (that by the way has the second highest rate of violent crime in the country per a statistic i saw today, way to go us!) you would want it to happen around 11:30 or so... until tomorrow night i suppose... (red cat- you will be mine... oh yes...)

Don't let the red cat scratch you...you know.
What was the guy trying to do?
Dad
i dont know... probably just trying to get in the fence to maybe find a nice place to crash for the night- there are several tables and a little gazebo over there... either that or he was gonna try to break into some cars or something... but thats all just my opinion because we didnt really let the guy act out on his plans...
Wow. Stories like that make me feel at home. Everyone always gives me a hard time about Memphis crime, but a few weeks ago, there was a shooting in my Middle Tennessee suburban neighborhood, so that stuff is everywhere. I'm glad you didn't have to resort to hand-to-hand combat.
Hey Scott
You have met my cool cat YAK. He was a wild stray just like the red cat. I sat on the porch, read a paper and just ignormed him. He would sneak and eat from the cat bowl in the middle of the yard. I moved the bowl closer every day. One day he pretended to rub against my leg. The next day he jumped into my lap and that was that, he was my cat. YAK is awesome. Rescuded cats are the best.
