probably the most amazing thing ever...
SO...
(get ready)
So i went out today to bury the cat... i'm still really sad about that...
i got him with my shovel and carried him to my back yard- i dug a big hole, put him in it... and as i did, i looked at his feet...
"hey... werent my cat's feet white? i know he had white paws... but it looks just like him... where's that little white spot by his neck?... no this is him... this is him... ok..."
put the dirt on him and wiped my hands- nothing else i could really do... but i got to thinking... what about those paws? i went back to my computer and pulled up my pictures... and it was hard to tell from those- they looked kinda white, but it was dark... i watched the video of us releasing him in the house and was able to freeze it as he jumped out of the cooler...
"yeah they look kinda white...hmm..."
later talking to my roommates:
"you know guys... maybe that was a different cat... i mean, didnt ours have white paws? i think the one i buried had paws the same color (orange) as his body... i dunno... am i just crazy? i mean what are the odds that a look-alike cat would get hit in front of OUR house the SAME day we let our cat go..."
but i guess you can just call me crazy- been called worse- because i decided to still put some food outside- i even added some tuna because i heard that worked well... and still every couple hours when i needed a study break i'd go out on my back porch and just scan the yard and the adjacent field to my house... i'd see little things i thought were him, rocks, branches, ... but yeah... nothing- i was beginning to just feel dumb wasting my time... a couple times in the evening i walked out side and took a lap around the yard, and when i knew nobody was looking i called him just in case... on the 3rd time... about 11:20 at night i decided to make one last try- i went out side, looked around... still nothing- i closed my eyes and said a little prayer-
"hey God- i know this might seem silly, but if my cat's still alive... if that wasnt the same cat i buried today, do you think you could help me find him again?..." and that was it...
still nothing- went inside... came out about an hour later..."last chance" i was thinking... "this is just kinda silly of me... i'm wasting my time"...
out in the back of my yard near the fence i saw something... a little greyish blob..."probably just a rock... i wonder... its close to where i put the tuna"...
mEEw!
"what? what was that?" walking closer
mEEw....
"HEEYY! ITS YOU! YOU'RE BACK! i love you, cat, come over here!!"
i've gotta say... i didnt cry- but i watered up out of happiness- my knees started even shaking a little, i was just in total disbelief... i had taken it harder than i thought i would when he was presumed dead...it was really him! wow! he actually came over to me about 75% of the way and just kinda layed on the ground- i tried as hard as i could to call him over and eventually he came close enough and went under my hand so i could pet him... i picked him up and petted him and he even started purring again! i held him there and soon he was comfortable enough to let me walk with him- and i made it back to the house... he still spooks really easily so when i clicked the handle of the back door he started to try to run away- i tried to comfort- but he was gonna get outta there...
"not this time"
i just held on tight with my right arm and he was really squirming- and i had to throw him inside just as he jumped out of my grasp- i quickly slammed the door- and he was in! wow.... that was just so crazy... so now he's hanging around downstairs and i'm gonna go down and do some studying and see if i can get him to eat some tuna-- all 4 of us have taken a liking to him and we call were so happy to see that he was ok- we're gonna give him a few days in the house and see if he warms up- and if he doesnt- i'm gonna put him back in the cooler and take him directly back to where i found him... i dont think i could deal with the guilt of having something else happen to him-
at least the look-alike cat got a nice burial in our yard- i took pride in my job of that... i wonder who's cat he was? i'll get some new pictures when i find him downstairs... !
